The First MoPSA Conference

The Montenegrin Political Science Association (MoPSA) cordially invites you to its first annual conference, which will be held in cooperation with the Faculty of Political Science, University of Montenegro, on May 29–30, 2025.

The theme of the conference is:
Democratic Resilience in Challenging Times: Perspectives from Political Science and Related Disciplines

The conference will open with a keynote lecture by Professor Wolfgang Merkel (Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung – WZB and the Democracy Institute at Central European University – CEU in Budapest) on the topic:
“What Is Democratic Resilience and How Can It Be Strengthened?”

Guest lectures will also be delivered by Professor Ruth Dassonneville from the University of Montreal and Professor Jan Zielonka from the University of Oxford.

MoPSA invites political scientists and scholars from other disciplines to submit papers and join the critical discussion on democratic resilience in both global and regional contexts.

We particularly welcome papers that examine the factors contributing to the decline or strengthening of democracy, with a special focus on political behavior, rule of law, media and information freedom, ethnic relations, and institutional reform. The conference aims to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue on the challenges facing democratic governance today and explore potential solutions for revitalizing democratic practices in fragile contexts such as the Western Balkans and beyond.

Paper proposals should include:

  • A title
  • An abstract (300–350 words)
  • 4–5 keywords
  • Author information

Please submit your proposal as a Word document to mopsa.mne@gmail.com with the subject line “MoPSA 2025”. The deadline for abstract submission is February 15, 2025, and authors will be notified of acceptance by March 15, 2025.
