dr. Srđan Darmanović

Dr. Srđan Darmanović is a full professor at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Montenegro, specializing in comparative politics. The primary focus of his academic work includes the comparative study of political systems, comparative transitions, and political parties and party systems.

He defended his doctoral dissertation titled “Democratic Transitions in Southern and Eastern Europe” in 2002 at the Faculty of Law, University of Montenegro. Upon the establishment of the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Law, he served as its head (2003–2006). He is one of the founders and the first dean of the Faculty of Political Science (2006–2010). Since 2005, he has been a member of the Venice Commission (European Commission for Democracy through Law) of the Council of Europe, and since 2019, a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). He is also the founder and president of the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEM), an NGO/think tank based in Podgorica.

As a visiting lecturer, he has taught at Georgetown University and Johns Hopkins University (Washington, D.C.), Colby College (Maine), La Sapienza University (Rome), and the University of Hamburg (Hamburg).

From 2010 to 2016, he served as Ambassador of Montenegro to the United States in Washington, D.C., and concurrently as non-resident ambassador to Canada. He held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of Montenegro from 2016 to 2020.
